The struggle a lot of people have is that they feel like they’re not making progress or worse, they simply aren’t. Most of the time, it’s because people aren’t doing the important things, or significant things, that move them closer to their goals and dreams everyday.
I first want to preface this by saying this isn’t some “woo-woo” blog post. I’m not a motivational speaker nor do I want to be one. What I want to provide here instead is actionable stuff to get you making progress everyday (even if it’s small) and move you closer to what you want in your life or business, everyday.
The process is simple. It’s all about “no more zero days”. It’s a little something I picked up on Reddit a while ago and re-encountered recently and have begun to apply it.
A zero day is a day where you don’t do anything that moves you closer to your goals or dreams. So, the idea is that every day you need to do something, no matter how small it may seem, that brings you a little closer to what you want.
For example, if you wanted to write a book, instead of fighting with yourself and having days where you don’t write at all, write at least something everyday. Even if it’s just a word or a sentence. I know that sounds silly and maybe insignificant but 1 is always greater than 0.
Getting something done is always better than getting nothing done.
This daily commitment gives you the confidence, motivation and momentum you need to get what you want and finally get stuff done.
There’s just something about being consistent every single day that begins to pay off. It’s a lot better than doing a lot one day, doing nothing the next, do some the day after. There’s just no consistency in that for it to work.
Just showing up allows really incredible things to happen.
Using the “writing a book” example again, there may be a day where you simply don’t feel like writing at all. You’re not inspired and you have no energy.
You sit done to write a sentence, just to have a non-zero day. What ends up happening? You end up writing a few paragraphs.
That doesn’t always happen but just showing up, or just committing yourself to doing something enables really amazing things to happen.
For me, I changed the wallpaper on all my computers to the text “No More Zero Days” and on my phone, the lock screen is “No More Zero Days”. This helps remind me and keep me accountable.
This also inspired me to do something even cooler.
I created a calendar.
The Hustle Calendar is a large one-page calendar where I can do things such as cross-off the non-zero days, keep track of goals and write down my daily commitments.
I could use something like an agenda or regular calendar, but it’s so much more powerful to see my entire year at a glance and look at my progress.
I created a new calendar for the upcoming year, 2016, and the cool thing is I’m also selling them for a limited time! That means you can grab a calendar and ensure 2016 is the year of non-zero days.
Everyday, from January 1st, 2016 to the very end of the year, we will do something that moves us closer to our goals.
No excuses, no procrastination, no zero days. Just hustling.
This calendar can help you develop a habit, break a bad habit, keep track of goals or simple allow you to write down daily to-dos.
I hope this helps! Remember, no more zero days. Every you should do something that moves you closer, even if it’s just one pushup, writing one sentence or reading for 10 minutes.
